
After it’s world premiere at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam (IFFR), TREAT HER LIKE A LADY by director Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito is now playing in Dutch cinemas. Newspapers Telegraaf, Trouw and NRC reward the film with four stars out of five and especially praise the films’ unique and colourful way to portray social themes like poverty. Trouw even calls it “The most fun Dutch film in ages”. Websites VPRO Cinema, Filmtotaal, cinemagazine.nl also rewarded the film with four stars.
Lead actresses Nienke Plas and Aimee Klaasenbos are praised by newspaper Volkskrant for “creating characters you won’t forget”. Movie magazine Filmkrant also praises Plas for her “irresistible energy”.
The colourful comedy drama TREAT HER LIKE A LADY tells the story of single mother Sandra. Together with her two daughters, Harrie and Stella, she lives in Amsterdam, barely making ends meet. When unpaid bills continue to pile up and she’s accused of fraud, Sandra must do everything she can, to keep her children out of the hands of social services. This fight against the system seems impossible. But Sandra refuses to give in.
TREAT HER LIKE A LADY was written and directed by Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito and is produced by Topkapi Films in coproduction with the NTR and the Belgian production house Menuetto. With support from the Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA of the European Union, the Dutch Filmfund via Development, Cinescoop and Production Incentive, the Flemish Audiovisual Fund and Belgian Tax Shelter.
