On Monday June 29th, the awards for the graduation films 2015 of the Netherlands Film and Television Academy (NFTA) were presented at the EYE Film Institute. Nachtoord won the Topkapi Films Fiction Award, which consists of a visit to the Berlinale 2016.
The jury, consisting of Saskia Diesing, Joram Lürsen, Rutger Wolfson, Frans van Gestel and Laurette Schillings, was unanimously positive on the film by director Hetty de Kruijf. In Nachtoord Saïd is scraping a living in a locksmith store. At night, however, he gives his life an unusual enrichment.
This atmospheric portrait touches the usual cliches without actually falling in these traps. The balanced choices the director made in acting, camerawork, editing and art direction show the way this powerful and relevant story is told in a relatively simple manner. Watch the trailer
