LOVE, POWER AND MANIPULATION IN NEW DRAMA SERIES ‘GASLIGHT’

By July 7, 2026No Comments

Filming begins this summer on the eight-part drama series about gaslighting and emotional manipulation.

Ko Zandvliet (De Libi, Jongens) and Raquel Hanekroot (Herres) star in the eight-part series about a young woman who becomes trapped in a relationship where the line between love and control gradually begins to blur. Gaslight is expected to premiere in spring 2027 on BNNVARA via NPO Start

Young student Nora feels like her life has come to a standstill. She has once again been rejected by her dream college, is sleeping on the couch at her friends Charlie and Sara’s place and is heartbroken over unreciprocated love. Seeking an escape, she throws herself into the nightlife, where she meets the charismatic, slightly older Simon. The undeniable chemistry between them quickly develops into an intense relationship. But as time goes on, it becomes clear that there is another side to Simon beneath his caring façade. Nora finds herself trapped in a relationship where the line between love and control slowly fades, and from which there seems to be no way out.

Gaslight is not only the story of a destructive love affair but also explores how gaslighting works: a subtle form of psychological manipulation that gradually causes someone to question their own perception of reality. The series asks how you can rediscover yourself when a relationship undermines your grip on reality.

Raquel Hanekroot stars as Nora and Ko Zandfliet plays Simon. The supporting cast includes Rifka Lodeizen, Rosa Kreulen, Hana Hussein, Rami Kooti Arab, Stephen Rutayisire en Jard Stronk.

Gaslight is directed by Shamira Raphaëla (Sihame, Shabu) and is a coproduction from BNNVARA and Topkapi Films.
