GIANCARLO SÁNCHEZ JOINS TOPKAPI FILMS
Topkapi TV has hired Giancarlo Sánchez as Creative Director. The TV and film director of hit series such as Mocro Maffia and Joardy Season will start this fall and will be responsible for the development and sales of new drama series and films. In this position, Sánchez works closely with creative producers Max de Wolf, Laurette Schillings and Frans van Gestel.
Laurette Schillings on attracting Sánchez: “Given the rapidly changing market, the position of creative director has become an indispensable function within our industry and with Giancarlo Sánchez we have brought in a very talented and creative director with a new look at series and talent. He will also continue to work as an independent director.”
Giancarlo Sánchez: “Since my graduation film I have been a regular at Topkapi. During the development of my plans, I was given every opportunity to learn and develop myself. That I can continue that process in the capacity of creative director is not only an honor but also feels very organic. I am really looking forward to embarking on this adventure together with the Topkapi team and developing and making productions for the Dutch and international market.”
Giancarlo Sánchez received the Topkapi Film Fiction Prize in 2014 for his graduation film Gameboy. In 2016 he won a Golden Calf for Best Television Drama for his ‘One Night Stand’ ‘Horizon’. He subsequently directed an episode of Van God Los, Mocro Maffia, the VPRO sketch series Joardy Season and the first Dutch Netflix Original Ares. At the moment, Sánchez prepares an an eight-part crime series for BNNVARA at Topkapi TV.
